fall part II

so it came for me. wednesday the 8th. and as i predicted, it crept up on me and then BAM! a wave of cool breeze swept across my face and my body. and with that breeze came peaceful thoughts. calming. encouraging. healing. changing.

so i kicked off my flip flops and stood in my front yard under our giant oak tree, feeling the cool earth beneath my wriggling toes. and for a moment, i was connected to everything that is beautiful and pure in this world. quieting my mind, i let the internal jumble fall away until there was nothing but me, the warmth of the sun on my skin, and my breeze.

the fall...

...i feel it coming. you know the day, that one perfect day, when the shift happens. the slow, subtle change occurs. the day that tips the balance of the scales inevitably away from one season and toward the next. summer to fall. it's magical.

almost every year since i was six, i've been aware of "the" day. it catches you off guard, and sometimes you can be enjoying the pleasure of the sweetest breeze for minutes or hours before you've realized what's happened. the sky in all its colorful glory smiles down upon you. the very trees seem to be whispering to you.  and without warning, you realize that you are in it. you are in a perfect moment. 

i feel it coming. not today, maybe not tomorrow. but soon.

i can't wait.

the rain...

"rain, rain go away...come again some other....wait NO! just go away."

normally i like the rain. it's the perfect excuse to snuggle up under your covers and read a good book. from light little drops that you can barely feel, to the drops that sound like hard slaps against the window, i normally love the rain.

but i am in a cold library NOT reading a good book, and my covers are no where in sight. 

just a few more hours to go before i am done studying for the day. 

i hope the rain continues until i make it to my bed...

In search of balance...

so i'm back in the library, site of so many long and drawn-out days of my studying existence. i am invigorated. i have a real sense of purpose today. i hope it lasts throughout the week. i hope it lasts throughout the month. i hope it lasts throughout the year. i hope it lasts throughout my life. 

all in all the time off was beneficial for me. i needed the recharge. my brain can only handle so much, and there is no use in pushing myself. at least, that's what i am supposed to think. i think it is inevitable that i will always be an overachiever. i'll always strive to push myself harder than the average bear, but i do know now the importance of finding balance in my life. the personal, professional, physical, emotional and spiritual parts of me, the pieces that make up the whole...they need to be nourished. case closed. 

so how do i achieve balance and harmony in my crazy life? prayer. meditation. and more prayer. 

so today, i'll repeat this over and over..."Give me strength, courage, health, wisdom, revelation and faith for the journey!"

olympic junkie

i am sitting in my sister's very warm, very comfortable, very swank apartment...my home away from home for the last few days. i sit and write watching the olympic games with my niece lexi (she's an eskimo spitz) watching and moving her head from side to side while i pound away on the keys. call me crazy, but i think she is going to miss me when i leave tomorrow. i am going to miss her so much it makes my nose burn and eyes well up a bit...you can go ahead and call me crazier. 

the past few days here have been amazing. much needed and long overdue girlie time. good food, SATC, and trying to work the "powerhouse" as best as we could! i don't think my sister realized just how much i needed the comfort of her words, her advice, and her teasing (which remarkably she's kept to a minimum on this trip). i think maybe she sensed that i was going through...it's a sister thing, and trying to get into the dynamics of that would be futile if i want to get to bed at any kind of a decent hour.

i met some wonderful people this week, they weren't lying about ragan's fiance', michael. he's wonderful. and even though he didn't know the rules about not talking to me when michael phelps was swimming, we ended up having a great little visit. it was so nice in fact, that we barely remembered that his steak dinner was almost lost in a sneak attack by our little lexi! oh well, no harm, no foul.

so i have a big night ahead of me. women's gymnastics...michael phelps...some light yoga...and then bed. gotta travel in the morning.
